Today, we left our hotel in Anaheim (going right past Knotts Berry Farm), headed south and took the Pacific Coast Highway to see a few beaches. At the lights, we came across this hog...
This was the view as we neared Huntingdon Beach - palm trees all the way. Note the cycle lane - nice and wide, and cleared of obstructions...
We met the pacific ocean at Huntington Beach, and had some lunch. While we were sitting eating, two female cyclists went past, and we heard the following snippet of conversation: "so, the only way I can fall asleep is if I put my breast in his mouth". We looked at each other, then burst out laughing. What kind of conversation is that?
Manhattan beach - where the pedestrians have right of way. What a great view!
Then we arrived at the lovely Venice Beach. This is the view from Washington Boulevard, along the Ocean Front Walk (the boardwalk) looking north. Most of these houses are architectural marvels - modernist TARDIS, fitting a whole lot of house into not much real estate.
A typical Venice Beach regular...
This is the world-famous Harry Perry, also known as the Kama Kosmic Krusader. He wouldn't accept a donation - later on, I found out this is because of litigation between the local city officials and the buskers that made it famous. The beach is a mecca for other street performers. Check out the little girl dancing at his feet.
Along the boardwalk is a weight training area called 'Muscle Beach' - this is where Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Trejo, along with other famous body-builders used to hang out here.
This is one of the many wall murals in Venice Beach. Others include Jim Morrison, one of the beach's most famous residents.
Dotted along the boardwalk are a number of 'medicinal marijuana kush doctors'. This one is in a tattoo parlor. You pay $40 for a semi-legal prescription, then they can fill your prescription with state-certified marijuana. To give you an idea of how legal this is - as I was taking these photos, Morag noticed them pointing and talking, then the doctor was unfortunately no longer 'in'.
Another Venice beach mural. This time one with Angry Rhinos and Killer Grizzly Bears by Dycht66. And on that note, we're out!
