New York, NY

Today we woke up at 7:45 to the lovely sounds of builder's tools at high volume - the memory of the last three months of Docklands returns to haunt us! Yesterday we did a bit of low-key exploring, and finally managed to sort out Morag's burgeoning health (at a cost £200!).
Learned a lot about the art of tipping - locals tip 10% and tourists tip 20% (because we don't know any better). Once you've had a taxi driver grumble about not getting a tip (or one big enough), you usually err on the side of caution and give them heaps.
After getting the run-around from three AT&T stores (and AT&T customer service - grrr) who said it wasn't possible, I got the WAP settings from the internet and programmed my phone, so now I can get the web on the nice new phone my brother gave me. We then walked up the west side of Central Park (whew!), saw Strawberry Fields and quit before the second lake (which had terrapins and rowboats).
After dinner, we headed over to Rockerfeller Plaza for a quick drink, posed for a photo with a couple of New York's finest (i.e. cops), and found an amazing bar/restaurant off Times Square called Carmines - where I had the zappiest Grande Martini ever. Walked out very lively indeed, into the full-on visual assault that is Times Square, and met Elmo. A mexican Elmo. In a furry suit - in 37° heat. Also looked unsuccessfully for the Naked Cowboy (the police don't like him), went into Bubba Shrimp and the Disney Store, and found myself taking a photo (of myself) being shown on a super-large screen, and then an on-screen figure took a photo of me (taking a photo). Very existential.
Times Square is pretty wild - but then, so is love. See you soon!
